New Scam Guru In Town!!!

There have been numerous scam cases in Kenya and it is a huge probability that you have come across this kind of situation. These cases have to be involving financial institutions which are widely used in this country. A secret school of criminals has been fooling people by using the names of financial services to earn their bid. It is quite a mystery how these guys decode relevant information and use it to lie to people with the motive of snatching your money.

Info such as phone number, ID number, and in a few cases the PIN? Clearly shows that these people are not amateurs but they are serious scam professionals. These money finders access your phone that you probably lost or even a sim card in order to get the contacts from your friends, family, and clients and that’s where the game begins. The messages usually entail untrue details like your loved one was unable to pay a certain amount of money such that you should help them pay it back, which is so untrue and inappropriate, and once you send the money, it directly goes into their pockets.

Take me as an example, am a victim. When I was at work and busy, I received a message through my phone:

“Hello, our client NAME, ID xxxxxxx, phone number 07xxxxxxxx, listed an emergency contact while obtaining a loan with a cash loan. Kindly help her to clear the balance today before 11.30 AM pay bill number xxxxxxx account is their phone number. Mount is 1900.”

The surprising thing was that the name indicated was my colleague’s name and she earned almost five times my salary. So I wondered how she could not pay that kind of money. I mean, the amount was so little to pay, so I decided to call her.

To my expectation, she did not know what I was talking about because she hadn’t owed a single shilling to anyone or any financial institution. What is more intriguing is that she has also received several similar messages from other people. I was shocked beyond words. This was really happening. She also narrated how she had lost her phone and this might be a clue to the whole case. It was so bizarre.

She also explains how this scenario can ruin her reputation and her name. This scam can be very embarrassing to your clients and friends and also your workmates. It could tarnish your name as a noble human being!

The other scam episode that happens is like someone just sends you a message claiming that they have sent money to the wrong number and they ask you to return the money which is so untrue. I would like to recommend that you should confirm first with your account and not just simply send the money to goons. The other one is that one where a stranger randomly sends you a text saying you should send the money there. How do they even know you were about to money? Just confirm first with the recipient of your money before sending.

Your safety comes first. Be witty.
